Our Journey to QVoice: Giving Our Daughter, and everyone, a Voice
Published on April 29, 2025
We're thrilled (and honestly, a little emotional) to finally share something incredibly close to our hearts: the launch of QVoice, our new Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) app.
Our Story
This journey didn't start in a boardroom; it started in our living room. As parents and software engineers, our world shifted when our daughter, Quinn, struggled to communicate as a toddler. Like any parent, we felt her frustration and were determined to do everything we could to help her find her voice.
We dove headfirst into the world of AAC, working closely with Quinn's amazing therapists. We saw the potential, but also the gaps. We knew we could combine our love for Quinn with our skills in technology to build something different – something intuitive, engaging, and truly supportive for kids like her AND the folks who are teaching her. And so, QVoice was born.
Building QVoice: More Than Just an App
We poured our experiences, hopes, and countless hours into creating an AAC tool we wished we'd had from the start. We wanted QVoice to feel less like a medical device and more like a natural extension of an AAC User's world:
Finding the Right Voice
Communication is deeply personal, and the voice should be too! We've included over 900 custom, high-quality AI-powered voices on iOS and Android, so every user can explore and find the perfect sound to match their unique personality.

Making it Fun & Engaging
We knew keeping Quinn (and other kids!) interested was key. That's why we incorporated dynamic GIFs, fun animations, emojis, and simple, clear icons - elements kids naturally gravitate towards.

Focusing on Learning
It wasn't just about speaking, but learning language. Working hand-in-hand with therapists, parents, and communication experts, we built QVoice on evidence-based principles to truly support language development.

Smart Features
Enhance communication with smart features like AI sentence completion for faster expression, unique wallpapers for contextual vocabulary, and playful widgets (PIN Practice, Jokes) for essential life skills. Plus, track growth with real-time data tools, allowing parents and therapists to see progress, understand usage, and set clear goals together.
Who We Built QVoice For
While our journey started with Quinn, we built QVoice for:
- Children and individuals just beginning their AAC journey.
- Those who face cognitive challenges, especially around attention and understanding.
- Dedicated Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and other providers seeking modern tools and better ways to track progress.
- Parents and caregivers like us, looking for an effective, user-friendly communication tool for their loved ones.
